What I thinking about working with families that comes from a diverse background is to make sure that children in families gets all the help that is needed. It is not easy for a family to come into another state who is not familiar with the area. People can be crucial to people that comes from a different state and disrespect him or her for no reason. I am a person that love people and respect him or her and wants him or her to feel comfortable in communicating and expression on how he or she feels about situation that is not understood. The goal that I have is to make sure that the children and families are respected not being abuse by people who are prejudice because the children are families or people who are different from him or her. Respecting in communication with children and families issues can occur with how people talk to children and their families this situation happens with people are disrespected because of their culture or race.

Welcome Families Around the World
This family is from Jamaica and have enter into the United States, How would I make myself culture response to this family.
1. Learn their language to make him or her feel comfortable in communicating with me.
2. I will gain information on the family background.
3. I would put pictures around the classroom that would make the children feel comfortable being in the classroom.
4. I would keep an open communication with child and family and be supportive to their needs.
5. I would ask the family to tell me about their children so the information that I gain I will also use it in the classroom with the children.
Having this family in my country will prepare for their children education and being comfortable in our state by making sure that he is satisfy with the values and belief is what would happen in the community and in the school. By me asking question and getting to know the family will help me to be aware of what the families needs are and my concern to be a help to the family. I hope this will help the family to feel free to come to me in communicate with me and ask question if there is a concern of what is going on in the classroom or in the communicate. I hope the resources that will be given if needed will help also to help with food, clothing and shelter. The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression
In this course I have gain knowledge on the topics of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression in this course of Perspectives
on Diversity and Equity. Since I have been in the course I have had some test in trials that had to do with prejudice and discrimination. An incident happen to me last week at my niece graduation family were sent in two rolls in there were Spanish people sent also in the second roll. When coming down the aisle there were a Spanish lady and daughter seating down were I am going to sit. Before sitting down I looked to see where the girls was sitting before sitting down before I could sit down the lady push me and started to speak Spanish to me. I turn around and ask her is there a problem the other daughter interpret for the lady and said I was going to seat on the daughter leg. I had to explain to her that I look before I seat down to make sure I was not going to seat on the girl. The mother just went off on me and a way that I had to ignore her and just seat down and not said anything else because my family members were getting upset at the lady. I had to calm my family members down and also tell the lady I was not going to seat on her daughter so she can calm down and enjoy the graduation that we come here for. The lady went off again and told me to shut up at this time I did get upset because I pick up that she was prejudice because she kept tell me and my family to shut up. I could not rally stay upset because my sisters were getting very angry with the lady and I am trying to keep my sisters from fighting this lady. At this time I am sitting thinking to myself is this really happening? I was speechless all I could do is stay focus on what I had learned in the class. I felt that because I was an African American woman seating by this women and her children she did not like me and to think I was going to seat on her daughter was just upsetting to me afterward. I did say that it was good that the lady left before the graduation was over because I would have to ask her was she prejudice and if she was why was she in California? This might have sound wrong but this is how I felt when the graduation was over. My family ask me was I okay because I do not let anyone disrespect me like that. I told my family it was a test for me and I believe I pass it. This has taught me no matter how nice you can be to people you want get the respect back. I have learned more now how to handle situation when it has to do with prejudice I am not prejudice and I do not like when people are prejudice against one another. We are all human being man and woman with different color skin and different culture. We as people should treat each other with respect regardless of what color of the skin.

Practicing Awareness
This week for my classroom assignment I have gain knowledge about microaggression and how it can be hurtful to people in how he or she communicate with other people. I observe this week how people communicated with each other there where not that many that were being microaggression in their communication. There was one I did see and it was a women and a men talking to each other the men ask her a question and the women responded back with an attitude. I did not know what the question was about but I did hear the guy tell the women you will not disrespect me like that either you are going to respect me or you remove yourself from my area. The respond back was that the women did not like what was said to her and she responded back to the men you think you are better than me because you have more money then me? You are full of trash money do not make you better than anyone else. You have a nasty attitude and I do not want to be bother. This was all I heard and I left from the area that the people were in. Sometimes microaggression can be very offended and it can also make a person think how people should be treated. The way people treat you and a disrespectful would you treat someone else like that? That is a good question it does happen people can be disrespected for no reason and it causes others to respond back in the same way. I know it is hard to avoid it I know it is hard for me to avoid but we do have to take this into consideration working with children and families. We also can take it out of purposing how a person is we can assume a person is something that he or she are not. When I observe the couple I said to myself what is going on the couples look like a couple that has it all together but there was some misunderstanding on my part of the observation. I did not believe that the guy thought he was better than the women he was just trying to get his point across of the women being disrespectful to him out in the public.

Culture and Diversity
This week I have talk to some friends and I ask her what was her definition of culture. My friends describe culture is background of different races with tradition. Another friend said that it is different race that have different background, different religion and different belief. It was discuss that diversity is when a group of people that are from different race that have different belief than what the other races have. My other friend said that diversity is the things that you do in front of other race, the food you eat that is different from their culture, the way he or she thinks, trying to fit in. Looking at this week and last week lesson my friends did include some of what culture meant as beliefs, values of groups. A lot of their belief did omitted the music that are different, art, their written, and their behavior. Listening to how my friends describe culture and diversity make me more know what it is and understand what it all about. Gaining the knowledge will help me acknowledge their belief and behavior and respect it.

Family Culture
I am in this state I know nothing about I was told I could only take three things that I hold dear to me. In this state I have no input on this final designation and then the culture is different from my culture I have only one change of clothes to wear. This is very different from what I am use to and then I have to taking something that is close to me which would be my photo album of my family and friends that I can not see every day this means a lot because I would not see my family and friends everyday like I would if I was in my own country. My bible that I read that keep me encourage everyday and uplifted means a lot because it is something that my family has done for along time and it part of my culture that was taught to me to read it everyday to keep me going in the right way. It would teach me to do what is right and not wrong and how to live in this day and time. My diary that I could write and my book about this country I am in and to let the people know what I have been through if something was going to happen to me. This means a lot to me because I could look back and see the situation in my life that I have over come and accomplish in my life. Now being in this country does not know anything about this state come to find out that what I have brought can not go with me and I would only have to take one item and leave the rest. At this point I am not happen because the three items are very dear to me that I can hold and know that it is safe with me. I do not believe I would like being in this state where I can not have my items that I want with me and for someone to tell me what I can bring or can not bring with me is not making me very happen. I am ready to return back to my state with people I feel comfortable with. Just thinking about this procedure for my class for this week on family culture, diversity and other culture difference would be very hard for me to adjust to their culture when I am use to my culture and state. This has shown me that when people come into our state it is that difficult for him or her to adjust and we should make him or her feel comfortable in our state and not make it so difficult for him or to adjust. I feel if that was really to happen to me I would not feel comfortable of someone telling me I could just take three items and not take all of my items that I needed. So I would try my best to make someone from another culture feel comfortable around me and respect their culture and not try to tell him or her something that would make him or her feel uncomfortable. This was a lesson for me to put into action in my live and in my professional field.

Team Development
In this week lesson I learn about team development and how people in a group are suppose to be supported to each other as communicated, being respectful to each other, caring about one another, having compassion for each other. I also learn working as a team what to look for in a group.
One occasion I had with a team is when I had to do my intern and I had classmate who was doing the dame internship that I was doing. In this intern the classmates and myself work together with other groups that where in the facilities. We became good colleagues by help each one out with the goals that had to be meet each day. If one of us did not understand what to do we where there for each other by giving ideas how to work with the residents in the facility which was communicated, solving issues, doing a lot of critical thinking. Being concern about each other assignment that was giving for that week and to make sure all of the assignment was meet before the end of the assignment was over. We work together for a month in our internship but when it was moving towards the end of the intern we knew that is was going to be hard to leave the place because of the colleagues that help us with our internship who was very concern that we learn what we had to learn and participated in the activities that was given. Everyone there at the facility was very polite and treated us with respect. At the end of the assignment I realize that classmates and I had build a relationship together and our communication was with respect of each other and the concern we had to meet our goals together. We talk about we did not want to leave the facility because we enjoy what we were doing so it made us feel sad at the end but the supervisor gave us a good report and told us that we could come back and apply for a job there.
The adjourn from my group that I am working with in my master degree will be hard because of the communication that we have share with one another to help each other out with the information that we have gain from our studies together. Conflict Resolution
This week I gain knowledge on conflict resolution and the importance of how to handle conflict in my personal life and professional career. I recently had a experience with one of my family members who was not helping paying bills in the house all he wanted to do is eat and sleep off of me and then wanted to use my car do not have a job. I was not going to let the situation to keep going without coming to an agreement with the family member. I had to express how I felt about the situation and I did get upset while I was expressing myself. the family member started talking while I was talking and was not listening so that made the situation even worse. So I am talking and he is talking at the sometime so I had to tell the family member to wait and listen I am talking and he still kept talking so I had to raise my voice to get the family member to be quite so I could finish saying what I had to say. By the time I started back talking I was more upset than I was when I first started. After expressing myself the family member wanted to talk and say how he felt about the situation. I listen to what he had to say and I interrupt him while he was talking and he told me to let him finish so I did. After we both express ourselves on how we felt about the situation we came to an agreement on what must be done to get the situation taking care of. After having this conflict I have learn how to communicate without raising my voice and having feelings about the next person on how he or she would feel about what I am saying to them. The family member did not like when I get upset so he said he would try to help. That was all I needed to hear I just needed the family member to understand what I was trying to explain to him. Conflict can be handle with respect for the other person without saying harmful words, dispute or criticizing each other. When communicating one should be able to listen to the other person while he or she is speaking and wait until the person is through talking before he or she interrupts. I have learn to avoid conflict and come to an agreement and respect the person on how he or she feels about the situation. This is where the 3R's needed to be recognize in my situation respect, responsive, reciprocal to be acknowledge each other perspective of the situation. Gaining knowledge in this class will teach more how to communicate in a respectful way not that I do not do that now but it will teach me more strategies to use.

Being A Communicator
In this week lesson I have gain knowledge on how to be a communicator, a listener and how to show facial express to let the person know that a person is listening. When it comes to communicating with a person or group it is good to listen first until the person are threw talking. This is the polite way of giving respect to the person and letting him or her know that you are listening to what is important to him or her. Sometime we as people do not wait until a person is threw talking before we interrupt the conversation are facial expression can give away a bad message and we do not know it. We communicating I want to be able to communicate without interrupting the person listen to him or her until him or her is finish. When the person is finish respect what the person has said and give a positive respond in the conversation. Communication is the best way to find out about a person and know what him or her likes and respect it no mater what their culture is or race. Prejudice can play a part in communicating also because was as people look at what color the person is and because the person is not our race then we can disrespect him or her and talk to him or her in a disrespectful way. This does not show children how to communicate with their family, classmates or community. We have to be an example for the younger generation when it comes to communicating it does not hurt to communicate when someone comes up an ask a question and you do not know him or her. Be respectful in a proper way ask the question with out given a bad body language or a negative facial expression. This lesson has really shown me how to be a communicator and I have been practicing on communicating and facial expression. I have been told that my facial expression shows when I do not like something that someone does or what someone said. I try not to show my facial expression and that is something I have to work on that it want give out the wrong message which I am not try to do. After this class I should be able to be a good communicator because I am nerves when I speak in front of a big group my words get tangle up and I go blank. When I am in a small group I am not that nerves but I do get loss of words sometimes and I keep talking until I can thinks of something else to say. I am so glad to learn more about communication that will help me in my professional field. I talk to parents and children in my field and sometime feel that I have not said enough for the parents to feel comfortable with their children being in the classroom. I have been told by my supervisor that I have communicating with parents because of the reports she has been given from the parents and how the children likes me. I was very happen to hear that from the supervisor and to know that the parents and children are comfortable at the school and classroom. I am thankful for having this class and pray that God will help me to be a good communicator in my work, community and church.

Coomunication and Culture Diversity
In this week lesson deals with communication effectively with different cultures which is not a problem to do for me. I talk to anyone I am a people person who does not have a problem in communicating with different cultures. I have talk to people in different state and countries and have found out so much about their background and what he or she believes as in religious and their family cultures. I tried to keep and eye to eye contact and listen to what him or her are communicating about and try to understand what he or she has on their mind. In doing this and communicating in responding to the conversation I have believe that the person understand me and I understand what he or she is communicating about in work, community or in church. There is a lot of communication that goes on at my church and everyone tries to communicate in the right way and with respect. Children are taught to treat everyone with respect, their friends, adults and their parents. I try to communicate with people differently where I am aware of what I say and how I would say it and try not to show any facial express where the person would think that I am not listening to him or her. I have found myself being careful in communicating with different people in different ways as talking slowly, making sure that the person understand what I am talking about by answering question to make sure him or her understand. Watching my body language which is not always good at times. What would help me to be a effective communicator is to be aware of the conversation and think on what to say after the conversation is finish do not leave the conversation without responding back with the person. Show polite face expression to let he person feel that what he or she is saying is important to you as well it is important to him or her. Watching my body language is very important to it can give a mix message that is not really what I am trying to do in purpose. Communication is very important to have and get information that is needed for him and her. Out of this class I expect to be an effective communicator where I would not have any problem when delivering information to anyone.

Competent Communication
When I think of some one that does competent communication I think about Oprah Winfrey I have watch how she communicate very good on her shows. She listening to the people who are on her shows and comments when he or she is finish. When the person is finish then she adds her opinion on how she feels or believe about what the person discuss. If the person is in need Oprah would help him or her out or find resources that he or she can use. If the person have a rough time in their live Oprah would give him or her a gift, money or send him or her on a trip and I believe that it helps in communicating with people in a respectable way. People would feel more secure in communicating with him or her. This is what I have find with Oprah see communicate with a lot of people and have help him or her out in situation that him or her wouldn't believe. What make Oprah effective is how she communicate with people and what she does if him or her or in trouble she does not make him or her feel bad or upset she makes it where the person feel comfortable in talking with Oprah. I want to be able to communicate like Oprah be open minded and advocate for people who needs it and help him or her out in what every the needs is. Communicating is a very important subject some people do not like to communicate it it help when you are in need of information or need information from someone. It is must be done with respect of other and not evaluate him or her before him or her is finish talking. I am looking to learn more about communication in this class.

Professional Hopes and Goals
When I think about working with children and families who comes from a diverse backgrounds it helps me to have more concern and be supportive in helping him or her. Children that has a diverse background need my help and support to help him or her to develop in their learning. Children that comes from different states and have a different language are not comfortable when the environment that he or she are in does not understand him or her. I believe that it is my responsibility to make the child and family feel comfortable in the classroom and in our state.
The goal I would like to set for early childhood field with diversity, equity, and social justice is to make sure that each child, families, and co-workers are treated with respect no matter what color he or she is. I want to be able to make sure that every child, families and co-worker have support in what he or she needs with resources that would help in any issues that he or she is having with in the school and community. I would want the children to know about different children in different states so he or she would know how to treat each one with respect in their communication and their interaction with one another.

Welcoming Families From Around the World

The five ways in which I will prepare myself to be culturally responsive towards this family
1. To learn about their culture background so when the children comes into the room I can greet him or her in the appropriate way to feel comfortable.
2. I would learn about their holidays in place pictures and a calendar on the wall and do activity about the holidays so the students would be more comfortable in the room with different culture as well. There would also be books with Russia children in it and diversity books.
3. I would have information for the parents that would be in their language as well as in the English language about what would be going on in the classroom.
4. I would want the parents to give me information about their family culture and what it is important for their children to know and be carried out in the classroom.
5. I would want the family and children to feel comfortable by being in our state and classroom by asking the parents to attend the parents meeting and voicing their opinion on what he or she would want for their children while being in our state and school.
I hope that this preparations will help the families and myself to help get the right information that is needed for their children to feel comfortable by being in a different country and in the classroom with diversity children. This would help me to know how to communicate with the families and children without causing any confusing among ourselves when communicating.

The Personal Side of Bias, Prejudice, and Oppression
The Memory I have about prejudice is watching the movie Roots. When I watch this movie as growing up I did not understand why the people were so mean to each other because of the color of their skin. I have watch this movie over and over again and I ask myself how could these people be so cruel to each other? When my mother and father explain to me about this movie and how prejudice happen when my parents was growing up. I still could not understand why people were so mean and did not respect each other as people. This movie disturb me I felt that everyone should be treated with respect and not looking at what color the person skin is look at the person as a human being and treat him or her in the way we as people would wanted to be treated. This help me as growing up to treat people nice and communicate with him or her no matter what race the person is. I look at people as human being like myself and I want to be treated with respect and not to be call out of my name with races words. When I see people mistreat people because of their skin color it make me very unhappy I believe that no matter what the person is he or she should not be disrespected at all sometimes it is hard to not disrespect people when him or her disrespect you. In seeing this it makes me care about people more and try to communicate with him or her no matter what. Sometimes I have to pull away when people disrespect's me for being an African American Female. My parents always told me to treat people with kindness and they will treat you with kindness. I really believe that until I work with different races and realize that people will not treat you the way you wanted to be treated you have to ignore the discrimination and prejudice sometimes. By studying my lesson it has help me to watch what I say to people and how I say it even when it is not to hurt their feelings. We as people should try to help each other and not offend because as a whole we need each other.

Practicing Awareness of Microaggressions
In this week lesson I learn about microaggressions which was very interesting to me. The video enlighten me on many information that I was not aware of. My assignment is to ddescribe at least one example of a microaggression which you detected this week or remember from another time. In what context did the microaggression happen? What did you think and feel when you observed the microaggression or when you found yourself as the target of a microaggression? In what ways did your observation experiences this week affect your perception of the effects of discrimination, prejudice, and/or stereotypes on people? An incident happen at my job where a teacher had a problem with the secretary because she was young and white and the teacher felt that the secretary did not know what she was doing in the office. Just listening to the conversation about how the parents was not getting the right information sent out to the parents in the language where he or she can understand it. The way the teacher was talking about the secretary made me feel that she was prejudice against the secretary and was not intelligent enough to go and talk to her on the supervisor about the situation. So I talk to the teacher and ask her did she talk to the secretary about the situation if there was a problem with the letters being sent out to the parents. She said know I did not talk to her because she felt that the secretary should know what she is doing if she is in the office. So the teacher ask me was I taking side I told her I was not taking anyone side it is just common sense if there is a problem you just do not sit around and talk about it to everyone go to that person or the supervisor.

Perspectives on Diversity and Culture
In this week assignment deals with culture and diversity I was able to talk to people about culture and diversity on their definition about the two. One said that culture means to her is a certain environments clubs, church or the atmosphere that a person is around. Another person said that diversity to him means a different personality, judging, diversity if option of sorts of different people types of things. I was at my job and one of the teacher did an example with the children about an egg she had the student to look at the egg as whole and then she cook an white egg and a brown egg. The teacher as the children to taste both egg and tell her if the egg is the same or is the egg different. The children tasted the eggs and told the teacher that both of the eggs tasted the same. The teacher explain to the student that the students are the same people but have different color of skin. The children understood as he or she interacted with one another.
The information that I gain about culture is what a person do daily such eat, sleep, the language that he or she speaks, a group of people who has values, belief, rules and expectations for their children. My Family Culture
In this week assignment I learned about family culture and what to look for among the diversity culture. If my family was among a major catastrophe and how no final destination and I were told that our host country's culture is completely different from my culture, and I might have to stay there permanently. The country tells me an addition to one change of clothes, I can only take 3 small items with me. The 3 items that I hold dear to me that represent my family culture would be my bible, family album, and my family music. The reason why I would take my bible because it is my instruction that I live by each day it guide me to do what is right. My photo album I would take because it has memory of family members and friends that have pass away and the ones that are still living that I can remember and treasure the good times together. My family music I would take because I like music and I like to hear my family sing and other gospel artist this is one of the things that keep us together because my family like singing and playing instruments. If it was a change and I were told that I could only keep one personal item and I had to give the other two items it would be my photo album because it is dear to me because I have special people in my photo album that has help me to be where I am today so if I got discourage all I would have to do is look at their pictures in think about the conversation that I have had with he or she would keep me encourage.
