In my Issue and Trend class I was not able to get in contact with any professional in other states so I was not able to find out what quality issues are in their work or where he or she stays. When I research on the quality issues where I live I found alot of issues that I was not aware of all of them. In South Central Los Angeles there are schools that do not get adequate funding, and as a result, most of the students there can only dream of attending USC. The drop-out rates of students who attend public schools in South Central are unacceptable. A recent study conducted by Harvard University found that nearly half of the students at South Central's Manual Arts High School and Jefferson High School drop out of school. That requires a fairer distribution of resources to inner-city schools and a greater commitment to quality education for all. The youth of South Central deserve more qualified and caring teachers and more dedicated principals. We cannot set low expectations for our students or accept mediocre performance. Parent involvement is also critical to the success of student academic performance.
Where I work the issues is the language barriers of the Spanish children and parents who comes into the school and fill uncomfortable not knowing the English language. Once he or she know that there is someone there at the school that can speak the language and understand he or she situation begins to work out for parents and their children. Another issues is when there is not a teacher in the classroom that do not know the language of the children it becomes very hard for the teacher to teach the children because they do not understand. This is when the teacher have to come up with a strategies that will help the children to understand what he or she are saying.
Teachers are necessarily at the center of reform, for they must carry out the demands of high standards in the classroom (Cuban, 1990). Thus, the success of ambitious education reform initiatives hinges, in large part, on the qualifications and effectiveness of teachers. As a result, teacher professional development is a major focus of systemic reform initiatives (Corcoran, 1995; Corcoran, Shields, & Zucker, 1998). Teachers should always learn more on quality to have effective class professional development is necessary to have to share what you have experience and learn in this field of early childhood. This development would help a lot of professional in your community and out of your community the knowledge that you have that are coming into the field that do not know as much as he or she does.
Some of my professional goals is to get all the education I can get to be the best that I can be in my career of child development. I want to work work with families as well as their children to help in any way that I can to make sure the parents in children or happy with the school. Another goal is to be able to work with my coworkers in issues that can be resolve through communication and strategies to make sure there is not animosity among ourselves.
My hopes and dreams is to own my own school for all ages K-12 that is why I am taken early childhood courses now so I will be able to pursue this dream to make it come alive. This is something that I have always wanted to do because I love children no matter what race or cultural they are from. I have a heart for children and families I like helping people no matter where he or she come from. This is challenging for me because of many issues in my life right now with a sick mother that I never thought would have the disease of Alzheimer's this is my second around to finish college I finish the first time in college with a Bachelors now I am going for my Master. I am determine to finish my goals in life.
